The expert behind our October wines is June Rodil, a partner at Texas-based Goodnight Hospitality, which in its founding year opened Montrose Cheese & Wine and Rosie Cannonball — the latter of which earned a James Beard Award semifinalist nod for outstanding wine program. The group’s latest project is March, which opened this year. June is passionate about restaurant operations and championing diversity and inclusion in hospitality, and her leadership in the beverage community has earned her major accolades: She was named Star Chef’s rising star sommelier award in 2012 and Wine Enthusiast’s sommelier of the year in 2019, and she’s the only person to have received both restaurant of the year and sommelier of the year in Food & Wine’s history. June is also an avid sparkling wine drinker, having created her own private label rosé in 2017 with Austrian winemaker Markus Huber, and she’s as passionate about wine as she is about doing crossword puzzles with her husband.
