Tasting notes on the wine:

Initially I’m struck by the deep red fruits and subtle spiciness of this red. Very complex with all kinds of flavors from liquorice to candied plums to herbs. It screams for an arancini or neapolitan pizza with prosciutto on top!— Holly Berrigan

About the winemaker:

We’re in Sicily with a lovely aged red blend from Vitadoveste. They’re a small family-owned operation with 7 hectares in the Marsala region of Sicily (yes that Marsala!) and create traditional style wines that are very ageable. Until recently, they had sold their grapes to the large Marsala wine factories but broke the cycle in 2013 to create artisanal, organic, wines of real character. — Holly Berrigan
